  1. United Nations’ World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is annually observed on 17 June to create awareness about the threats posed by desertification and drought and promoting efforts to combat these challenges. The theme of World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought 2023 is “Her land. Her rights”.
  2. World Crocodile Day is observed on 17 June every year to spread awareness about the conservation of endangered crocodiles and alligators around the world.
  3. Gopichand Hinduja has taken over as the Chairman of the Hinduja Group after the recent demise of his brother Srichand P Hinduja.  
  4. UNESCO has announced that the United States will rejoin the agency in July, four years after leaving due to allegations of bias against Israel.
  5. The United Kingdom has announced the appointment of senior diplomat Jane Marriott as the next British High Commissioner to Pakistan, making her the first female British envoy to Islamabad.

  8. RING, a digital credit platform in India, is collaborating with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to implement its UPI Plug-in feature into its existing digital services.

  16. Daniel Ellsberg, a U.S. military analyst, who was known for leaking the ‘Pentagon Papers’, which exposed how the US Government deceived the public about the Vietnam War, passed away on 16 June 2023, at the age of 92.
